For Blackguard's death, the effect was designed to be both shocking and funny at the same time. Shane Mahan said, "We made a silicone head that was designed to look like he was shot with 40 machine-gun bullets, real fast, like a blur. We shot that as a reference piece for VFX." Mahan continues, "And then we had a full replica of him with that headpiece on the beach because he's there for the remaining scene. And there's just a closeup of like blood coming out of his face." Dan Sudick and his special effects team made a blood dispersing rig for the Blackguard replica as well.
