They had seriously considered Nicolas Cage for the role of Brad, but Heckerling felt he wasn't as good a fit as Stacy's brother. Leigh always felt "down" compared to the rest of the cast's pep, and the director thought pairing her with another "down" performer wouldn't work. "We wanted something a little brighter."
