The character of Yuki Mori was named after Miyuki (nee Yukiko) Moriki, a former pen pal of Leiji Matsumoto. She was a student at the Music College of Okayama, and they would write letters to each other; they did not get to know each other personally, though. He claims to have seen her on television, in 2004, as a pianist named Miyuki XX.
