A normal combat load for an individual Marine would be 8-10 magazines, a Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) a bayonet/combat knife, a bivy shelter, sleeping bag, poncho, knee and elbow pads, a multi tool, night vision optics mounted to the helmets, (3) MRE's, 1 gallon of water, extra socks and under garments, 2-4 grenades, a white smoke and yellow smoke grenade, a thermite grenade, a phosphorus grenade, a field radio for the Radio Operator, a command radio for the Lieutenant, an AT-4 Rocket Launcher per Squad, M9 handguns for the NCO's, officer and SAW gunners and assorted maps, compasses and GPS navigation aids. A "kit" for a 3 day patrol on an Individual loadout, with body armor and helmet would be about 65 lbs.
