This film contains subliminal references to almost all of Stanley Kubrick's films, including his first feature Paura e desiderio (1953). At one point, we see a scene from Una pazza storia d'amore (1973) on a television set. "Blume" was directed by Paul Mazursky, who made his acting debut in Paura e desiderio (1953). In the scene where the mysterious woman warns Dr. Harford, we hear the ballroom theme from The Shining.
