During the first gun battle, Lee slides across a table and inserts a new magazine into the pistol held by Carter. The pistol's slide is locked back as it should be if the last round had been fired, allowing for the fresh magazine to be inserted. All Carter had to do was hit the slide release and the pistol was ready to fire again.
