The film is dedicated to Robert Downey Sr., making it the 4th time Paul Thomas Anderson has dedicated a film to a recently deceased filmmaker. The other filmmakers honored were: Ted Demme in Ubriaco d'amore (2002), Robert Altman in Il petroliere (2007), and Jonathan Demme in Il filo nascosto (2017).
