This film was such an unexpected massive financial success throughout the world that its distributors, Twentieth Century Fox, postponed the release of their other Christmas 1990 release 'Edward Scissorhands' (1990) as they were worried it could suffer financially due to the huge success of Home Alone and the competing Disney film 'Honey I shrink the Kids' (1990). Although the latter has already been released to US movie theaters, the release to the rest of the world was changed. Edward Scissorhands was given a staggered release in other territories starting in March 1991 all the way through to July 1991.
