The most recent Dracula film this spoofs was Bram Stoker's Dracula di Bram Stoker (1992), in which featured Anthony Hopkins as Van Helsing and Cary Elwes in a supporting role. Hopkins and Anne Bancroft appeared together in The Elephant Man (1980) and 84 Charing Cross Road (1987), both produced by Mel Brooks. Elwes appeared in Brooks's previous film, Robin Hood - Un uomo in calzamaglia (1993). That film also featured the character of King Richard, who was played by Hopkins in Il leone d'inverno (1968).
