The battle depicting two army rangers on top of a mountain peak is based off a real operation done by JSOC in March 2002, and is now known as the battle on Takur Ghar. It involved Seal Team 6, Air Force special operations, and Army Rangers. Just like in the film, the mountain was deemed clear by intelligence specialists, however upon landing on the mountain the seals took heavy contact from entrenched taliban fighters. Neil Roberts, a navy seal, fell out of the ch-37 helicopter. He ended up in a very similar situation that the two army rangers end up in. However, none of Roberts' team mates jumped out after him. The second Army Ranger who jumps out is based on an Air Force combat controller, John Chapman, known as "chappie" who died assaulting an entrenched position. Like the rangers depicted in the film, Neil Roberts is killed by taliban backed forces. Army rangers involved in the battle of Takur Ghar, or "Roberts Ridge" we're the quick reaction Force for the SEAL team. At the end of the battle, 4 Army Rangers were killed, 1 combat controller technician was killed, 1 pararescuemen was killed, and 1 SEAL was killed.
