Jeff Davis stated that Buffy l'ammazzavampiri (1997) was one of the inspirations for the show. Both shows feature a small California town that houses a center of mystical convergence, the Hellmouth in Sunnydale and the Nemeton in Beacon Hills, as well as a reluctant teenage hero given powers unasked for, teenagers forced to fight the forces of evil, and supernatural creatures of all kinds. Additionally, Bianca Lawson played a recurring character on both: Kendra Young in Buffy and Marin Morrell in Teen Wolf. Ironically, vampires are never seen or discussed throughout the entirety of Teen Wolf and may not exist in this universe.
