About all the growling and noises the monsters make, Director Adam Wingard actually understood what his characters were saying all this time and he basically served as an interpreter for his actors on set. In an interview with IMDb Chat, Isa Gonzalez spoke about how the director was so incredible and collaborative she added: "You know, he's such a geek, and he had such a sense of, like, this growl. And he would growl at us, which is really funny. He's like, means, like he's sad, or he's really happy, or he's terrifying."
