Besides being a great announcer, one of the other reasons that made Rod Roddy a good choice for the producers was that he seemed to work well as a character player in the showcases. With his funny animated grin, the had so much pleasure humiliating him by dressing him up as ridiculously as they did Johnny Olson. One notable showcase Rod dressed up like Carmen Miranda, with a big brightly colored Brazilian dress and humongous fruit hat. The audience cracked up as much as the creative team, and Rod LOVED it.
