The novelization specifically classifies the Skullcrawlers as non-amniote reptiliomorphs, technically making them amphibians (or more specifically, part of a branch that lies between modern amphibians and true reptiles). In the film, we also see Skullcrawlers lay translucent eggs like frogs or salamanders.
