In their scenes together, Diddlebock shouts the lion's name, "Jackie!", repeatedly. This is not just any lion named Jackie, he's THE Jackie, the lion seen and heard on the MGM logo from the studio's first sound film, Ombre bianche (1928) through 1956. MGM did not have Jackie under contract, and he appeared in other studios' films.
