While giving Belle a tour of the castle, Cogsworth proudly speaks of a Rococo design included in its rooms. Rococo was an 18th-century design style "which combines asymmetry, scrolling curves, gilding, white and pastel colors, sculpted molding, and trompe-l'oeil frescoes". Its theatricality and supposed frivolity was intended as a reaction against the overt formality and insistence on symmetry of the older Baroque style.
