A few people have commented that some of the enlisted characters wear their rating patches on the left arm, and some wore them on their right arm. If they think this is a mistake, it's not. Back then, the arm you wore your rating patch on depended on what your job (rate) was. There were left-arm rates and right-arm rates. The U.S. Navy stopped this practice at some point in time after World War 2 and enlisted personnel now wear their rating patches on the same arm, regardless of rate.
