Even if this film is set in an alternate universe than the previous two films, it still makes brief nods to Batman and Batman Returns respectively. After surveying the condition of the Batcave, Bruce asks Alfred, "By sea or by air?". By air refers to the Batplane used to stop Joker from gassing everyone in Gotham to death in the first film. By sea refers to the Batboat used to speed off to the Penguin's sewer lair in the second film.
