Passed by the British Board of Film Censors on March 3, 1967 with an "X" certificate, this movie premiered in the U.K. at the United Artists-owned London Pavilion on June 8, 1967. It was shown five times daily and ran for three weeks. For its general release, the Rank circuit decided a supporting feature was necessary and chose Lord Love a Duck (1966), a satirical comedy starring Roddy McDowall. Unfortunately, several suburbs and smaller towns rejected the McDowall comedy and asked United Artists for something else. Not knowing what to pair with the first X-rated spaghetti western, United Artists simply dug up an assortment of sex and horror movies from their stock library. Femmina (1958) starring Brigitte Bardot was sent to Scunthorpe and Thorne, while Vento freddo d'agosto (1961) went to Huddersfield, Uttoxeter, and Walkden. Horror fantasy La spada magica (1962) (better known in England as "St. George and the 7 Curses") supported the Man with No Name in Hayle, Tamworth, and Atherstone. Other cinemas were allocated hit-or-miss with La furia dei Baskerville (1959) in Cleckheaton and Shipley, Seppellisco i vivi (1958) in Dundee and Edinburgh, The Explosive Generation (1961) in Cardiff, Baciami, stupido (1964) in Ayr, Lezioni d'amore alla svedese (1965) in Hinckley, Il sindacato del vizio (1959) in Blackpool and Stewarton, Mai di domenica (1960) in Whitby, Ciao Pussycat (1965) in Grimsby, Arrivano i titani (1962) in Malvern, Johnny Coll, messaggero di morte (1963) in Perth, L'isola della violenza (1962) in Keighley, and I tre da Ashiya (1964) in Greenock. Even a few war movies were pressed into support, namely Destinazione Tunisi (1957) in Beverley and Mexborough, Cinque per la gloria (1964) in Brighouse, and even the scarcely appropriate Squadriglia 633 (1964) in Chipping Norton and Evesham.
