The bomb remote control unit Payne has during the subway sequence is also known as a "Dead Man's Switch". Payne was using his version of the device, wherein if his grip is released on the unit, the explosives would activate. This is the inverse of the standard use of a trains "Dead Man's Switch" which, as mentioned in another trivia entry, is a safety feature that can slow a train to a stop.
