Balian is told by King Baldwin that, at the age of 16, he won a great victory. He's referring to is the Battle of Montgisard. On November 25, 1177, King Baldwin led a force of around 5,000 men and attacked the army of Saladin that numbered around 25,000. The Crusaders launched a surprise attack that overwhelmed Saladin's troops and forced Saladin to flee back to Egypt losing almost his entire army.
