When announcer Rod Roddy was diagnosed with colon cancer, it didn't slow him down. He was just as much a trouper as his predecessor Johnny Olson, in that no matter how sick Rod got or how weak he was, he rarely missed a taping. Rod actually scheduled his chemotherapy around the taping schedule so that he'd have enough energy to do the show, with strategic timing of his chemo sessions so he'd have maximum recovery from the ravages of those kinds of treatments. You would have never known he was sick when he was at work, he seemed to ignore anything that would remotely get in his way. The only giveaway was his rapid weight loss, but his camera time from the show was completely removed starting in Season 31. After his seemingly endless battle with cancer, Rod passed away in October 2003. A memorial was given for him right there in Studio 33 at CBS, with studio executives, celebrities, and friends attending the services in the same studio in which The Price Is Right is taped. It was very touching and probably exactly where Rod would have wanted it...in the place where he loved performing so much.
