Both Howard E. Rollins Jr. and Hugh O'Connor had problems with substance abuse during production. Rollins was dismissed from the show in 1993 because of his issues, and died in 1996. O'Connor committed suicide in 1995, shortly before the TV-movies of the 94-95 season finished airing.
