The Kabin newsagents' shop was located on Rosamund Street, around the corner from Coronation Street, between 1976 and 1990, before being moved to Coronation Street. In the storyline, this was so owner Rita Fairclough could leave behind bad memories of her relationship with Alan Bradley. In reality, it was to enable directors to show the exterior on a regular basis without the requirement for location work, as a real street was used for scenes on Rosamund Street. For the same reason, Roy's Rolls café moved to Victoria Street in 1999 when the show's set was expanded, with the explanation that the owners had sold their original premises to the motorcycle shop next door for expansion purposes. Another Weatherfield location, Weatherfield Quays, was dropped in 2006 after 17 years to eliminate the need for location scenes (the real-life Salford Quays being used as a backdrop), with the Victoria Court apartment development on Victoria Street replacing it as the regular home for more affluent characters.
