Specs on the diesel locomotive that wipes out the DeLorean near movie's end: this train engine is an Alco S6 (S = Switcher-type) built in June 1956 by the American Locomotive Co. in Schenectady NY. The S6 is rather obscure and a seldom seen model since the manufacturer made only 130 of them, and they were not very popular with railroads. The one in the film (serial no. 81730) was then on the motive power roster of Ventura Central Railway as No. 9, appearing in its yellow and blue VCRR livery. Originally built for and employed by the Southern Pacific RR (where it was numbered 1226), it went to work at the Fillmore and Western Railway some years after the movie as locomotive number 1059.
