In September 2020, it was announced that Jack Quaid from the Amazon Prime series The Boys (2019) was added to the cast of this film. Coincidentally, his mother, Meg Ryan, was referenced in the original Scream (1996) when Dewey tells Sidney that he sees her as a "young Meg Ryan".
