The movie depicts Anne Boleyn secretly wedding nobleman Henry Percy and consummating the marriage, much against the will of her family and without the king's approval; the marriage is annulled on the grounds of Henry having already been betrothed to another woman. In reality, Anne and Henry were only secretly betrothed; it never came to a marriage (much less consummation) because their wedding was not authorized by the royal court, and the betrothal was simply broken off because of Henry's earlier engagement. Anne was not temporarily banished to France but to her parents' countryside estate. She had actually already been in France as part of her education, long before meeting Henry Tudor.
