Brian Cox went on to play Dr. Joseph Bell, the real-life inspiration for Sherlock Holmes. Christopher Plummer had already played Holmes himself. The two men both have a relative who has played Holmes' assistant, Dr. Watson. Plummer's cousin, Nigel Bruce, played the part in the early Holmes films. Cox's son, Alan Cox, played Watson in Piramide di paura (1985).
