A chaparral is a place with evergreen shrubland in California and in the north of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico. The name comes from the Spanish word chaparro, an evergreen oak shrubland; chaparro is also a bush of Central America and Venezuela, of the family of the Malpighiaceae.
