The movie stars both Jamie Bell and Lou Taylor Pucci, who were both featured in music videos by Green Day from the "American Idiot" album. Bell appears in "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and Pucci appears in "Jesus of Suburbia" as St. Jimmy. Additionally Justin Chatwin, whose character bares a striking resemblance to Billie Joe Armstrong, is named Billy in this film.
