With the exception of the second film "InuYasha the movie: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass", the four InuYasha films are not necessarily canonical stories occurring within the series. However, nothing transpires in any of these stories that clash with the events in the TV series. If the films are watched in order of release following a particular fashion; using certain "landmarks" from the series that are present in each film, they can make sense within the series storyline. The First film "InuYasha The Movie: Affections Touching Across Time" can be viewed after the end of the second season of the TV series. [By the end of season two, Inuyasha had learned the "Backlash Wave" which he also uses in the first film.]The second film "InuYasha The Movie: The Castle Beyond The Looking Glass" can be viewed immediately after season three. The character Akitoki Hojo gets introduced well before his season six introduction into the series. [In the film, Inuyasha has also acquired the Barrier breaking "Red Tetsusaiga."] The third film "InuYasha The Movie: Swords of an Honorable Ruler" can be viewed after the end of season five. [Season five ends with Kagome traveling back to her time and the storyline for the third film begins with Kagome and Inuyasha in her present time.] The final film, "InuYasha The Movie: Fire on the Mystic Island" can be viewed after season 7 ends. [In this film, Sesshomaru goes into battle wielding the Tokijin which ends up getting destroyed early on in the final season.]
