There were originally supposed to be hints that Druig and Sersi had been romantically involved at some point in the past leading to tension between them when the group comes to his rainforest home to recruit him. This thread was dropped after Chloé Zhao saw how well Barry Keoghan and Lauren Ridloff played off each other and decided to develop the relationship between Druig and Makkari instead.
