In the story line, Mulder travels to Wilkes Land in Antarctica. Prior to the production of the film, this area had been the subject of a negative gravity anomaly. Eight years after the release of the film, gravity measurements by NASA's GRACE satellites discovered the 300-mile-wide Wilkes Land crater.
