The Henry James novel, The Turn of the Screw, was the basis for two Dark Shadows present-day storylines. The first involved the ghosts of Quentin Collins and Beth Chavez in a storyline that aired during the winter of 1968-69. The second involved the ghosts of Gerard Stiles and Daphne Harridge in a storyline that aired during the summer of 1970. Each storyline ended with at least a character traveling back in time to save someone in the present: Barnabas to the year 1897 to save David Collins, and Dr. Julia Hoffman (joined by Barnabas shortly thereafter) to the year 1840 to save David, again, as well as Hallie Stokes, Elizabeth Collins Stoddard and Roger Collins.
