One of the biggest criticisms that season 5 of Ellen (1994) received was that the show had become more focused on Ellen's sexuality rather than telling a good story, and that Ellen Morgan being a lesbian seemed to become the focal point of the season. As a result, the protagonist Ellen Richmond in this show, while also a lesbian, doesn't have episodes that focus exclusively on her sexuality and is instead an incidental part of her character. This show would still be cancelled anyway.
