First western to win the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay since Butch Cassidy (1969), and the first to win an Award for Acting (and in the same category) since Gli spietati (1992). This movie, along with Il Grinta (2010), repeated a rare pattern, where twenty years earlier, two westerns (the other being Balla coi lupi (1990)) were nominated for Best Picture two years apart.
