An idea for a Resident Evil (1996) TV series was originally pitched in 2017 by Shawn Lebert, titled "Arklay: Resident Evil". The series would be investigative and inspired by Hannibal (2013) and True Detective (2014), with Lebert also planning to introduce the video game characters. His pitch was ultimately rejected, but developed into the short film Dave (2017).
