When Mike White wrote Dewey Finn's "The Man" rant, he wasn't told until after the movie had finished shooting that MTV (something Dewey says ruined rock music) and Paramount Pictures (the studio distributing the movie) were subsidiaries of the Viacom corporation. After the movie was a hit, he was assured that the Paramount executives didn't mind.
