As with many other eighties US TV series, the Vietnam War looms in the background, and often forms the basis for plots. Some of the characters are Vietnamese, and others are Americans, who are suffering the after effects of the war. One recurring theme is its effect on children, especially those who found themselves bicultural, i.e. with an American and Vietnamese background.
