The character of Titus has much in common with the actor who plays him (Tituss Burgess), with some distinct differences: they have nearly identical first names, although the character Titus changed his name from Ronald Wilkerson. Both are from the Deep South: Titus from Mississippi, Burgess from Georgia. Both moved to New York City to pursue careers on Broadway, but unlike his character, Tituss Burgess' aspirations have been very successful with roles in Broadway productions such as Jersey Boys, The Little Mermaid, and Guys and Dolls.
