In an early episode Marshall (Jason Segel) threatens to beat up a guy that is cleaning a stain on Lily (Alyson Hannigan)'s butt, though he claims he's never been in a fight before. Then in a later episode Marshall says he used to get in fights with his brothers all the time when he beats up Doug.
