Many later cinematic projects would nod to this one. One example is the 1982 film Firefox. Clint Eastwood's pilot character Mitchell Grant lands the Soviet fighter jet he stole in the far Arctic North, to be clandestinely refueled by a waiting American submarine, whose presence was explained as doing weather research.
