Saving Private Ryan was the subject of controversy when ABC planned to air the movie uncut on November 11, 2004 to commemorate Veterans' Day. Some ABC affiliates, wary of strengthened FCC regulations and the heavy fines in the wake of the revelation of Janet Jackson's breast during its Super Bowl halftime show, refused to air Saving Private Ryan. These included ABC stations owned by Cox Television, Citadel Communications, Hearst-Argyle, and Scripps Howard Broadcasting, among others. Many of those affiliates instead aired Return to Mayberry (1986) (TV).
