From season three and thereafter, a model of the famous bridge that British P.O.W.s had built in World War II, as seen in Il ponte sul fiume Kwai (1957), can be seen in the background of Higgins' study. Higgins was a British P.O.W. at that time and helped build the bridge. The model bridge was broken a few times over the course of the series.
