Both "The Mandalorian" and Star Wars Legends "The Thrawn Trilogy" take place five years after Il ritorno dello Jedi (1983) during the New Republic era. An Imperial Remnant of stormtroopers and scout troopers, Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 appear in both.
