Here are some of the many truths about Weird Al: -His father, Nick, often reminded Al that "the key to success is doing for a living whatever makes you happy" (Nick was a medic in World War II and later received a sting at a steel manufacturing plant), and he and his mother, Mary, were 100% supportive of his career choice. Nick had a cheerful but also dark and morbid sense of humor which influenced on Weird Al's personality.-A door-to-door salesman did come to the house to sell either guitar or accordion lessons at a local school, and his parents chose the accordion.-Madonna was the only musical artist who suggested to not only do a parody of one of her songs, but specifically "Like a Virgin" as "Like a Surgeon". They never had a relationship.-Al never smoked, drank, or did drugs. One of his college buddies claimed if they had got him to do any of that, he might turn "normal".-While "My Bologna" was recorded originally in a public restroom, it was at the restroom down the hall from Cal Poly's radio station, KCPR, and not at a local bus station.
