"Dodge Landon" is a reference to the characters Dodge and Landon, Taylor's fellow astronaut crew members in Il pianeta delle scimmie (1968), played by Jeff Burton and Robert Gunner, respectively; in directly quoting Taylor's dialogue such as "It's a madhouse! A MADHOUSE!!" and "Take your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape", Dodge Landon is an amalgam of all three astronaut characters.
