Executives at Warner Bros. did not want Mr. Bucket to be in the movie as they wanted Willy Wonka to be the father figure that Charlie never had, similar to what was done in Willy Wonka e la fabbrica di cioccolato (1971). Tim Burton rejected this as he did not think Wonka would be a good father.
