Rumors persisted for years that Fairuza Balk was a practicing witch/wiccan herself - and an extra on the first DVD even incorrectly stated her as such. In 2017, she set the record straight that she had merely bought an occult shop in the process of doing research for the film. She also had several contacts who served as consultants on the film.
