Nicholas Breton has claimed to have portrayed Superman as an infant in the capsule scene. He was born in September 1976 in London, around the same time as Lee Quigley, the baby credited as "Baby Kal-El". The scene of Kal-El in the capsule as it speeds towards the Earth was filmed in October 1978, which means that both Breton and Quigley would have both been toddlers and thus too old for the part by the time the scenes started filming. Breton was indeed present for the scenes shot in March-April 1977, which take place on Krypton before the escape pod takes off, in case Quigley did not cooperate. When it came time to shoot the close-ups inside the capsule, Quigley was the baby originally filmed, but he would not lie down for the scene, so the footage of him was not used; instead the close-ups were of Elizabeth Sweetman, who was six months old at the time.
